Memento Vivere

Collective photography exhibition

Memento Vivere (“Remember You’re Alive”) is the fourth exhibition in the 8th edition of the FotoFabrika festival. It brings together, for the first time, the work of 16 contemporary authors from Bulgaria and abroad. The exhibition is a thematic response to the Memento Mori exhibition presented at the National Gallery (the Palace) in 2020.

A year ago Covid-19 took up the role of the person specifically appointed to whisper “Remember you’re mortal” (“Memento mori!”) in the year of the triumphant emperor. In the contemporary reading of that line, the world heard not a discrete whisper but a loud slap that erased a whole range of plans and attitudes.

A year later our attempts at resuming our lives invariably include the awareness that we are here and now, even if we’re mortal. That’s why “Remember You’re Alive” (“Memento vivere”) should be at least as loud as “Remember You’re Mortal”- because life deserves its triumph.

We are dotted lines in a shared trajectory. Where every day each one of us dies a little. It was like that yesterday. It will be so tomorrow. When we will be no longer there.

Memento Mori was an attempt to be together again.
Memento Vivere is the next step in that direction.
