The Strange Other

War Confronting People. People Hitting The Roads Of War... More about the project www.nepoznatiatdrug.org

Millions of literary pages and thousands of meters of documentary footage show war and its victims to mankind.

But this does not make mankind smarter, nor wiser.

After two world wars and hundreds of local wars, today once more we’re facing the question of whether the world is preparing for World War Three.

Meanwhile, Bulgaria has begun receiving victims of war.

What do we learn from them? And what do we learn about ourselves?

Leaving the yard where you played as a child.

Abandoning the room where you first held your son in your arms.

Departing from the place where you buried your mother.

Fleeing the city where bombs fall.

Escaping.

Receiving people whose language you do not understand.

Worry for your living.

Getting used to lock your front door.

Being afraid that there is no one to protect you in your own country.

Fearing.

The Strange Other is an invitation for reflection, and a contact with ordinary people who found themselves in unusual situations.

The Strange Other is an indirect dialogue between refugees and Bulgarians who had to confront each other, against their own will.

What have we learned from them?

What have we learned about ourselves?

The Photo Exhibition in Sofia and the Video Screenings in Telish, Kalishte and Rozovo are our narrative about what happens beyond public attention.

The Strange Other is a series of questions to the Bulgarian institutions. The Strange Other serves as a warning against callousness.
